Does Magstripe Reader Work With Chip Cards?

I bought a magstripe reader at Best Buy. It works fine on my partner's iPhone 5, running iOS 10, but does not work at all on my iPhone 6 running iOS 12.1.

I have followed all the troubleshooting steps. When I plug the device in, it is recognized, but all swipes are ignored. Again, this works correctly on my partner's iPhone 5, just not my 6.

Is anyone else seeing this or have any suggestions?

(Please do not suggest the standard troubleshooting page, since I've done that multiple times, including while on the phone with Square support, who had no solutions for me.)

That's pretty odd it's only happening on your device @MichaelC.

Have you tried this reader on devices other than the iPhone 5 and 6?
