Hey there,

We're new users so I assume we'll eventually figure this and I'm just poking around the back end here...but I'm wondering how do I conduct an inventory?

We have thousands of comic books that need to be scanned over to this system from shopify. I do not want to do a product import because we have some data saving problems with shopify and I want as clean an inventory as possible.

Anyone that does inventory, what do you suggest we use for scanners and apps to track the data?

Hello @ApothSTL Welcome to Square and the Seller Community

When it comes to inventory counting in Square the app that excels on this task is Square for Retail it has advanced inventory features that the standard Square Point of Sale doesn't offer.

I invite you to take a moment to look at our Inventory Counting Guide. You will be able to learn how you can easily perform cycle counts from your iPad or iPhone manually or using a compatible bar code scanner or the built-in camera on your iPhone or iPad. I know it will be helpful to point you in the right direction.

Will this allow me to conduct a store wide stock take? Using the square pos, I assume I can use the barcode scanner for faster scanning? What page would this be on?

Yes @ApothSTL this will help complete a store-wide inventory count, and yes, you can use a barcode scanner.

Here are the instructions to use a Barcode Scanner

From the navigation bar in your Square for Retail app, tap Inventory. Note: If you’re using Square for Retail on an iPhone, tap the list icon to access Inventory, then tap Stock Overview.

Tap Adjust Stock > Count.

Using a compatible barcode scanner or the built-in camera on your iPad or iPhone, scan the item. Continue to scan, or tap the screen while the built-in camera is open, to increase the quantity by one each time.

Repeat this process across all applicable variations.

Tap Continue > Confirm.

You can save or cancel an inventory count at any time by tapping the X icon next to Stock count in the corner of your screen. You’ll see a pop-up that says Save Progress and can either save and close or close without saving. Note: Progress will only save on the device used to count inventory, meaning you can’t access a saved count from another device, even if it’s logged in to the same Square account.

From the navigation bar in your Square for Retail app, tap Inventory. Note: If you’re using Square for Retail on an iPhone, tap the list icon to access Inventory, then tap Stock Overview.

I hope this information is helpful!
