I understand the pain of how not-customizable square reporting is. I'm a fan of Microsoft Excel, myself. I export my detail item list (from square dashboard click Transactions-->Export-->Detail Item csv), open it in excel, convert it to a spreadsheet, and then use a pivot table to summarize the data as needed (by category, date, etc...). There are probably better ways to get reports, but this works for me. 🙂

This is my first year with Square and I am shocked at how inadequate the inventory and reporting features are. I need to run inventory reports by category; I can open a category, but when I try to export to excel it pulls my entire inventory, not the category selected, Is there a fix for this?

Square provides a sales report by category: navigate from your PC's Dashboard > Reports > Category Sales and set the date range selecter to the dates you're interested in. You'll get a report for that date range broken down into each category's sales. You can then export that by clicking on Export in the upper right-hand corner and selecting a location to download the file to.

Do you mean something more than this? If so, please let me know and I'll try to help further.
