Im wanting to load a few gift cards to give away as promo gifts. Is there a way to load the plastic gift cards without selling them and going in the reports on square?

We've done this quite a bit for gift cards that we've donated or given away during events. What we do is load the card as you would when you are selling one, then comp the gift card and complete the transaction. It will show up in your reports, but so will the discounted amount so it should balance out. Also, then I'm able to print the receipt and make a note for my records what that gift card was used for.
