Bluetooth Receipt Printer - Significant Print Delay

I have a TSP654II Bluetooth Printer connected to my iPad with Square. When I print receipts, there is a significant delay (about 12 seconds) between the time I tap "Print Receipt" to the time the receipt begins to print out. Is this delay common for bluetooth printers? If not, how can I fix this? Thank you
