I have a department store, and currently manage my inventory with Yellow Dog to handle the high volume of entering new items. Sales tax depends on whether the item is clothing or not. I put my clothing items in identifiable categories, however, I am unable to automate my sales tax rule by category. This will force me to export my items by category, disable taxes on clothing, and re-import. This needs to be done every time I add new items, and just isn't a scalable solution, and a huge inconvenience after having to go to Yellow Dog to handle my inventory needs, I now need to go to Square and make adjustments to my taxable items on a daily basis ? I think this can be fixed if Square is looking to attract retailers with large SKU counts and a variety of departments.

I have a retail store selling both food items and non-food items. Food sales tax is 9.25%. And non food items sales tax is 6.25%. The category type identifies food items from non-food items. Need guidance in setting up the correct sales tax rate by categories or is there a better ways.?

Hello @CharlieZiolive,

Hi there and welcome to the community.

Currently we don't have a way of assigning taxes to specific item categories. If the item you are trying to sell is a form of a service, we do have a service library that you can use to sell services that can be excluded by the tax rules created in your POS system. Other than that, you would have to go into each individual sale and manually remove the tax from being applied to specific items.

Let us know if you have any other questions in this thread. Happy to help.
