Why end cash drawer sessions?

Sorry for the basic question, but why do you end cash drawer sessions? At the end of the day, I count out what's in the drawer and make sure it is close to whats "Expected in Drawer." I also remove approximately what was added to take to the bank, and record a "Paid Out" transaction so that the next day's "expected" will be correct. But I don't end the session. I know I probably should. But I don't know why.

Hey @PublicOption-

The End Drawer functionality confused me too when I first came to Square. Especially when I learned we had a Close Drawer functionality too 🤔.

The End Drawer would be used if you are switching shifts between employees, and you want to record that the cash drawer session has ended, but you're not ready to close it and record the remaining cash in the drawer.

When closing a cash drawer, you are recording the actual amount at the end of the day. I hope this provides some clarity. It sounds like whatever you've been doing works.

Thanks Isabelle! I'm still not sure I see the point. But that's probably because our operation is so small/so few people.

My drawer history goes back a long way (years!). But I reconcile regularly and find very little variation.

I guess, as the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
