Can I set up a payment link where customers can enter an amount to pay (custom amount)?

How can I set up a payment link to have customer choose amount to pay, similar to the way the donation link set up?

Right now it only says "Item variations must have a fixed price to be sold in your store"

With Square Register, is it possible, instead of sending an invoice with a specific amount, to send someone a link to your Square account so that they can make a payment in any amount they choose? This would be similar to Square Cash where you can send someone the link cash.me/$cashtagname and they can pay any amount they want.

I am a developer new to square. I have a client running a business which is a delivery service. Her customers enter her site and send a form to request service. She returns an invoice through square up. She wants to have the customer return to her site and enter a pay portal. This "check out" is bare bones. It needs the card info and a field for customers to input the dollar amount that she charges them.

1) Is there such an iframe to allow customer input dollar amount.

2) Is it neccessary? Is the invoice like paypal where there is an embedded link to take you to Square's pay portal where the customer pays?

3) Is the checkout API the right solution for this?

If she is sending them an invoice then there is a payment link on it.

You can not do a custom amount in an online setting with Square.

Don't know what here service is but if it is something that can be set up as a fixed charge then you can set up the Square online store. The customer can order and check out at once. She will receive email and notification in the app. Orders can even be set to auto print.

Send me the link to her form and I can provide guidance.

You actually answered my question. PayPal has that option. I figured that there was a pay link on the invoices. I just haven't seen what one of their invoices look like. It makes perfect since, just send an invoice. She is trying to achieve an otherwise unnecessay step. Thank you so much for answering this! Have a great wealthy pursuit! 😉

Having this option would really help my business. Even though there are not too many comments on this thread, I see there are many people who have viewed it, I assume looking for this to be an option. Have there been any progress towards making it an option to send a link for payment without a specific amount yet?

I have a similar issue; a single service (home inspections) with a variable price.

If I read the message right, I cannot have each client input a custom amount.

Right now I have copies of the same service at different prices, which is a little messy.

I see that paypal lets clients enter a custom amount.

Are there any better ways of doing this inside of Square?

You can create one item without a price. This allows YOU to enter the price you want when you make a sale in person or send an invoice.

You can create an Invoice in Square, select your item and enter the price for this customer. The invoice is emailed to them and they can click the "Make Payment" button and pay it. If you have a work order or other details about the service or contract, you can add it to the item notes or as an attachment to the invoice. Super easy and professional.

No, the customer can't enter their own price with Square Online store.

However, if you send out separate invoices and you want to give them the option to pay and you don't want to use Square to create your invoices. Then I would look at JotForms. This is a form service that links with Square Payments. This will allow you to collect the customer information needed to match up the payment with the sale and allow the customer to enter the price on the invoice.

My client is an oil/propane supplier for residential and commercial customers. They still send out paper invoices and I don't see that changing. We want to switch from Authorize.net on their web site and use the checkout api. However the customer is going to need to be able to enter their payment amount. Some customers make partial payments, some pay in full so there is no set amount for anything.

Is this possible with Checkout API? Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

I agree that this is desperately needed - a simple link that I can send to my clients so they can pay invoices I generate from my own accounting system with a simple URL. It would be nice if they could enter ANY amount (partial payment), or the full amount. Now I'm having to use Paypal and I'd rather all of these processing fees go Square where I used to process all of my transactions!

Hi @DebB, welcome to the seller community and thanks for your post. At this time, the ability to make a partial payment or allow the customer to select their own payment amount is not available with Checkout API. Our Point of Sale team is tracking these requests, though we don't have a specific timeline available for when they may be included. For now, hopefully the workaround that Sean proposed in this thread helps get you where you need to be: Is there a way to make partial payments towards an invoice?

Try Paypal for this purpose...very easy for my clients to pay any amount they want with a simple link. Hope Square gets up to par with Paypal in this regard because I prefer to use Square for everything.

I would like to know if this feature does become an option because I'm hoping to be able to use a link so my clients have the opportunity to share with family and friends to help them pay towards their birth. Kind of like a honeymoon and wedding registry only for birth and newborn photography. Is there currently a way to do that through square?

Currently this feature is not on the road map, but we're still collecting feedback. Right now we don't have the ability to create a registry or an account where multiple people can donate funds to a specific individuals selected items. It's an interesting suggestion that I'll pass along to the Product Team.

Sometimes I offer clients an initial consultation without a specific fee attached to it. In those instances I would like to just send an invoice that allows them to write in whatever amount they can afford or what they feel the value of the consultation was. Is there a way to send an invoice without having specific price points? They could write in any amount and pay it.

This is an interesting suggestion for Invoicing. Right now we don't offer the ability for customers to choose the price of an item, but I'll make sure to pass the request along to our Invoices Team. I was working with a non-profit and created a link for our multiple fundraisers super easy via paypal. I wonder why Sqauare doesnt have that option. With our work, it would be so helpful to have this feature instead of taking credit cards over the phone and use manual card entry.
