Do I really have to pay for a new card reader? The first one I received was back in 2015. I just purchased a new phone and now need the lightning card reader. But square wants to charge me $10 for it? How can I receive a free lightning card reader for free?

Hi @socalrs247,

If you've already signed up for Square and received one free magstripe reader, additional magstripe readers do cost $10. You could always try contacting support directly and asking super nicely, doesn't hurt to ask.

Another oddball option, which might work (I have not tried this). The iPhones used to come with an Apple Lightning to headphone adapter. If you have one of those laying around, you may be able to use the old reader with that, although the reader will no longer be flush with your device. 😉
