Is there still no way to add a searchable item attribute?

I need to bulk upload a custom attribute, in this case "author" to an item. However custom attribute have a hard limit of only 255 values? That's a pretty useless feature in that case.

you can't even make a "notes" column that could be used that way... Anything really?

What I would suggest is in the Item Name field put Bookname - Author. Then on your POS you can search by Author and it will list all their books. The item name can be up to 128 characters. I know this is not perfect but might help.

Or setup Categories for each Author.
