my card reader is not working. its old, 5 years. how can i get a card reader?

Hi @Jedean,

I moved your post to an existing thread that goes over how to get another reader.

Only your very first reader with us is free so you can't get another one for free.

However- the magstripe readers typically do not malfunction but just need some troubleshooting. I'd recommend trying these tips to get it working again as it's probably not the reader itself.

You can purchase a new reader through our online Square Shop, or you can purchase a replacement reader at your local store.

I just purchased the contactless reader and I was surprised that it came with a card stripe reader also. However it is for the phone Jack and I have iPhone. Is there a way to swap out stripe readers with a lighting Jack reader. I wasn’t given a option when I purchased the contactless reader to choose between phone Jack or lighting and I don’t want to purchase a card strip reader

Welcome to the Community.

Is this the first magstripe reader you're trying to order? Only one free reader is allowed, per account. So if you have already received one, you will have to pay the $10 to get another reader.

If you haven't ordered a reader on your account yet, please try the following steps:

1. Click http://squ.re/readerrequest

2. Select "Send me a reader"

3. Select Connectivity

4. Complete checkout process!

If that doesn't work, please let me know.
