I have been on chat for about 2 hours and reps keep parroting the fees. I know the fees. My keyed fee was basically 12% last week. That doesn't add. I had one rep say that Weebly also charges a fee? Is this true? Does this mean I am getting both a Square and Weebly fee? And Square owns Weebly, so what gives on that? Just trying to get someone to give a straight answer. One rep actually said "It's in the report. So it's right?" What?

There may be a very good explanation or maybe I am just not seeing it, but it would be nice to have it broken down so I can understand it.

Last week:42 keyed totaling $2710 with $321.54 in fees.

My reports for "Keyed Transactions" are not making sense to me. The number of keyed transactions is high. So I am assuming that online orders can count as keyed in. However, the fee taken for keyed is a lot higher than the one advertised by Square. So what gives? Are they combining keyed and online percentages with online keyed transactions?

Hi PointBreakTacos,

If the transaction is in person, the fee is 2.6% plus $ .10 (best deal of course)

If the transaction is from an online sale (website) the fee is 2.9% plus $.30

If the transaction is entered manually or keyed (Phone, Email, etc.) the fee is 3.5% plus $ .15

If the transaction is an invoice, the fee is 3.3% plus $ .30

If you have the customer's card on file (because they purchased from you before), the fee is 3.5% plus $ .15

As you can see there are different scenarios. Question is what fees are you paying for keyed transactions?

jk

Thanks for providing some actual numbers - I guess at this point, I'm as baffled as you are - regardless how I play with the numbers, it does not add up to what your bottom line fees are, not even close. Hopefully someone else here can provide a logical explanation.

jk

Thanks. Square Support Chat was zero help and actually condescending at points. "The reports say it's correct." Umm, yeah, because reports can never be wrong. Then they transferred me a minimum of 6 times to different people. All I want is a breakdown of why my "keyed" transactions have fees that high and nobody could give me an answer. The only possible answer I got was that Weebly also charges a fee but nobody was clear on that either. When I run the numbers for my "dipped" or "tapped" transactions, the fees are right on target.

Seems there was a point in time whereas both Weebly and Square applied charges to a transactions however, I can't imagine that this practice is still going on. Your math is spot on as for percentages and bottom line fees - even if you were double charged (from Weebly and Square), the numbers still don't add up. Perhaps it's time for a Square Community Moderator to take a look. You do have a point - now someone needs to step up and provide some details as to the cost process. If there's something that's missing from yours or my perspective, we both need to understand what that is. Just my personal thoughts of course but, I would really like to know as well as you would.

jk

@PointBreakTacos ;

If you look at your Transactions Details CSV report it will show you what your Fees are for the Transaction along with your % and you additional charge per transaction. The Higher the $ value of the Transaction the Less total % you are actual Charged. So if you have A lot of low Dollar Transactions your net Fee is over the advertised rates. Example:

If you are charged 2.6% and 10 cents per transaction on a $1.00 Transaction your actual rate is .126 Cents or 12.6%

If you do a $10 transaction (10*2.6%) + .10 = 36 cents for fee or 3.6%

Now same Transaction but $100 Transaction at 2.6% plus 10 cents = 2.60 plus .10 or $2.70 which comes out to 2.7%.

The Per transaction Fee on low dollar amounts throws Processing fees over the stated % rate. As for Weebly and Square charging I have no clue as I do not use Square or Weebly for my site. So as you see the Effective rate is ALOT higher at lower Transactions which is why some places have a Minimum charge for Credit Cards.

SO if you are doing A lot of under $10 transactions your effective rate will be higher. The effective rate gets Close once you get to $100 sales per transaction.

I hope this makes sense.

Yes, this makes sense. I will double check those numbers but I am not doing a lot of low transactions like that. I average $30 per transaction.

I think I figured it out. The way Square passes "Delivery Fees" and "Tips" added to my large fee percentage on the "keyed" percentage.
