Can I use Square on a laptop or computer instead of a mobile device?

Hi - I am trying to find out the answer to a question below:

Can I use Square on my laptop instead of a mobile device and plug the reader into the microphone? If so, how do I download the app on my laptop? It is not an Apple product.

You can't accept manually entered payments on your PC. Sorry about that. But I can bring up your request with our product liason team.

Square Register runs on most iOS and Android devices, but not PCs.

You can't swipe a card on your laptop but you can send your customer an invoice right from your Square Dashboard. Square Invoice's allows you to send a bill to your customer via email and they can pay right away!

Invoice payments are always deposited on your normal deposit schedule so you won't be paying extra or waiting longer for your deposit.

@BillFreeman @Sergio Here's a thread with similar questions. You can send invoices via email to your customers that they can pay, but taking payments can only be done via the Square Register app on a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet.

No, Square only works on mobile devices like iphones and ipads. you can log into square on a computer and use the dashboard to setup items and look at sales and stats.

While you can't download the Square Point of Sale app or swipe cards using a reader with a computer, our Virtual Terminal feature does give you the ability to manually enter payments right from your Square Dashboard. You can read more details about this feature in this product update thread: Square Register Update - Virtual Terminal. You'll have to tell me what your thoughts are once you test it out! 🙂
