How to Trial Square Software and Preview the Hardware Experience

Hi!

I have tried to get through to someone at Square directly but seems a long process just to speak with someone.

I want to know if anyone has been able to trial Square? I'm unsure if whether it is the right system for me. I like the handheld device a lot and it really does appeal to me but I don't want to pay out £170 if the system doesn't work for me. I want to be able to use it as an inventory system. I want to be able to input what I bought items for and compare to how much I sell them for.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you're asking two great questions—whether it's possible to trial both Square hardware and Square software.

While we don’t offer trials for physical hardware, you can absolutely sign up for a free Square account and test out the free versions of our software (like Square Point of Sale, Square for Retail Free, or Square for Restaurants Free) to see if they offer the inventory features you’re looking for.

If you're interested in exploring more advanced inventory tools, those are included in our paid software plans, which you can try free for 30 days. After that, standard monthly billing applies, but the trial is a great way to test things out before committing. From what you've described, it sounds like you're looking for the ability to set and update unit costs, a feature currently available through the Square for Retail Plus plan.

As for hardware, we recommend downloading one of our apps on your mobile device first. You can log in with your free account, or a trial plan, and start exploring. While the mobile experience differs slightly from using something like the Square Handheld, the interface is very similar and will give you a strong sense of how it works.
