What are "Service Charges" on my reports?

Howdy,

I am looking at our sales summary report and notice a line on the report labeled "service charges". Is service charges the same as the processing rate? If so, do those show up at the end of every day or is that a monthly thing?

I want to know how much we are paying square in processing fees.

Hi @BSkiesCreamery. Service charges are another thing that you use to charge customers fees in addition to them buying products. For example, you might have a take out service charge, or a large party service charge.

If you want to see what fees you are paying to Square for card processing, from your online dashboard go to Reports -> Payment Methods. Choose the date range you are interested in. There is a column titled “Fees” which represents the card processing fees you were charged.

Alternatively, you can use Reports -> Sales Summary which breaks out the fees you pay to Square.

And, from your POS, there is a Sales Report that shows this information as well.

Please help me understand. I sell retail. No food, delivery. Just merchandise. I had a $9.00 sale and the report shows I paid a $4.00 service charge plus what looks like the fee rate was 6.2%. This doesn't seem correct. Thanks for helping.

Hello there @drizz

Sorry to hear about this confusion. While your transaction may appear subject to a 6.2% processing fee, this is the way that the system adjusts the 2.9% + .30 per transaction. If you add it up it will total the correct amount. If you share a screenshot of the transaction (you can remove or scribble any customer-related information as I won't need that), I can go into more specific details for you.
