Square’s per transaction fees for credit and debit card payments are as follows:

2.65% for card present payments: this includes contactless credit card payments and inserted (chip + PIN) transactions accepted with the Square Reader, Square Stand, Square Terminal, as well as swiped Virtual Terminal payments.

$0.10 for Interac chip & PIN, or Interac tap sales

3.4% + 15¢ for payments that are manually keyed-in to the Point of Sale app: Square Invoices, for Card on File Transactions and Manually Entered Virtual Terminal Payments

2.9% + 30¢ for Square Online, Square eCommerce API, and Square Invoices, Appointments No-Show Protection.

*Note: The higher fee for manually keyed-in transactions (3.4% + 15¢) is due to a greater risk involved with these payments, as neither the card nor the cardholder need to be present for the payment to be processed. Learn more about Square’s fees.

Square’s fees are deducted before the funds are transferred to your linked bank account.

When talking about Square processing fees ... don't forget to include the ridiculous $.50 DELIVERY FEE!!! This is the most outrageous fee ... and I get angry every time I get the Square's stupid invoice ... which also, by the way, includes TAX!!! If this isn't a huge money grab, I don't know what is!!

Is there a way to program an option to automatically add the additional charge to the customer when they choose to pay with credit over the invoices app?

Currently, Square only offers per-transaction pricing. We don’t support custom or monthly pricing at this time.

Square’s card processing fees are taken out of the total amount of each transaction, including taxes and tips. The fee per transaction is:

2.65% for card present transactions
3.4% + 15¢ for keyed-in transactions
2.9% + 30¢ for invoiced transactions
$0.10 for Interac Tap transactions

There are no additional fees and every card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) has the same flat rate. These fees are static and do not change depending on how much you transact. Because we only charge per transaction, Square doesn’t cost you anything if you don’t use it.

With the amount of outages, and overall limitations of Square these days, the fact that square no longer refunds the processing fee (and I am then billed for said fee) when clients need a refund is total trash. I'll likely be looking for a new way to bill my clients if this is the case.
