I'm trying to set up discounts:

1) a 3 for $20 ($1 off the total purchase)

2) a 2 for $12 ($2 off the total purchase)

It seems that no matter what i set Square is treating this as a AND when i add 3 items, it will take $3 off ... which i don't want. I want the rules to be OR not AND. I know it says 'the greater discount will apply" but this isn't conducive when I'm using the app and want the proper discount (add 2 get a $1 off, or when i add 3, get $1 off) automatically and not have to add it manually OR adjust my prices by $1.

HELP!

When you want to do a 3 for $x.xx dollar amount in Square; the $ discount has to be evenly divisable by the quantity.

So you could have a $.99 discount so that your discount is actually .33 per item. Reason Square does this is incase there is a return the customer will not get the full $ amount of the item returned.

Your other alternative is to do a % discount, but that takes some math and calculations to figure out. You would be at about a 33.33% and that may work. You can use decimals in the % discount.

What is the price of the item that they buy 3 of for $20?

If the items were normally $8, then 3 of them would be $24.... the dollar discount would be $1.336 per item which would get you to $19.99 on the receipt. If you tried $1.33 you would get $20.01 on the receipt I believe. This is why I say try weird % discounts.

Here is what my By 3 Handmade earrings @ $20 discount looks like. I have a Category of Handmade Earrings $8.99 each or 3 for $20. I created the % discount instead of the $ discount to make it work, here are images of it:

Each Earring is $8.99 so 3 sets would be 3 x 8.99 or $26.97

So what happens is the 3 earrings = $26.97

Automatic discount of -$.6.97 (25.84%)

Sales tax of 6% $1.20

------------------------------------------------------------

Total of sale = $21.20

If you subtract the $1.20 sales tax you have the advertised sale price for the 3 sets at $20.00 with the discount setup like the images above.
