@rla5 Currently, gift cards (both eGift and Physical) do not have an expiration date in Square. Since I always have non-expiring gift cards I never really looked at that until today. If you absolutely need expiring gift cards, you might want to go to the Square App Marketplace and search for gift card apps from third-parties that integrate with Square.

We are going to run a program where customers can bring in particular items to receive store credit. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this within Square?

Hi @rla5. The first suggestion that comes to my mind is to issue them an eGift card. And if they bring in items over time, you can just add to/reload that eGift card again.

Regards,

Thank you for the response. I looked at the eGift card option, and it all talks about customer purchase of egift card. Do you know how the eGift card works to set it up for seller issuance, as opposed to customer purchase?

@rla5. Yes. You can issue gift cards from any POS. Since you don’t want the customer to pay for the e-Gift card, you would just ring it up for the amount of the credit and then discount that transaction by 100%. In my shop, we have a 100% discount code that we use when we are doing eGift card donations, for example. This way you have a history of how the card was used, and are able to see outstanding cards. You can even set expiration dates for the store credit this way, if you want.
