IOSS and VAT for selling to EU countries

Hello. I understand (from Etsy) that we will need to charge VAT on items ordered from EU countries and provide an IOSS number when shipping. As I also sell on Etsy, they are doing this on the sellers behalf but how do we go about getting an IOSS number for our own website and how do we charge the appropriate VAT at checkout for EU orders?

Hi @EnchantedDreamr, thanks for sharing this.

With the Square Online site, you should be able to configure VAT and tax based on the destination country. To do so:

Go to Items > Sales Taxes (if you have more than one Square Online site, this will be under Settings or Shared Settings > Sales Taxes)
Under Tax rates & calculations, click Add tax rate.
Select countries you're shipping to and add the appropriate tax rate.
Once that's done, navigate to Fulfilment > Shipping to setup your shipping regions and rates.

With regards to registering for IOSS for your business, I found some guidance online on the Europa website that might be helpful. It might be best to contact a tax professional regarding this to make sure you get all the right information. I hope this will help!
