Hi,

Can we as a retailer in Australia lawfully pass on the 6% afterpay charge to the customer?

There's a dedicated support article here that covers what can and cannot be applied to Afterpay transactions, when enrolled in our Surcharges Beta. This beta feature lets you automatically add a surcharge in the Square Point of Sale, Square for Restaurants or Square for Retail apps when a customer pays with a card to cover the cost of payment processing fees.

It’s important to note that when using the beta feature, for in-store Afterpay transactions, you can apply your card surcharge to the cover payment processing portion of the fee (that's your Cost of Acceptance). Otherwise, you can't impose a surcharge on a customer using Afterpay as their payment method.
