How do I set up QR code tipping when I'm busking? In these days people seem to carry less cash, or don't want to take the time to wait and tap after we've finished a song.

With Square Payment Links you can generate a printable QR code, that your audience can scan in order to pay directly from their phone.

One of the options when creating a payment link is Collect a Payment. This selection has advanced settings, where you can enable the buyer to set the price. In my experience, this is what most musicians and performers using Square would offer.

That being said, if you were also selling merchandise with a fixed price for example, you could create a second QR code to Sell an Item. With this option, I’d suggest that you utilize the advanced settings so that the buyer can also leave a tip. And if you wish, you can even redirect them to your website after they make payment, which should hopefully help with exposure.

You can create Payment Links from both the online Square Dashboard and Square POS app.

From your online Square Dashboard, it’s: Payments > Payment Links > Create a Link.
From the app, it’s: ≡ More > Payment Links > Tap the + symbol to create a new link.
