Hi @Baretto!

Thanks for reaching out. I completely understand the issue you're facing with your loyalty program — you'd like to prevent customers from earning points when they redeem a free coffee, as it could lead to them needing fewer paid coffees to earn a free one.

Currently, Square’s Loyalty program automatically awards points when customers redeem a reward, which means the free item (in this case, the free coffee) also gives a point. Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in option to exclude points from being earned on redeemed rewards.

However, there’s a workaround that could help:

1. Manually adjust the points: After redeeming the free coffee, you can manually deduct the point from the customer’s account to keep the system in line with your original setup (6 coffees = 6 points for a free coffee). You can do this through the Loyalty section of the Square Dashboard.

2. Adjust your program settings: Consider setting the program to issue a free coffee after a different number of points (e.g., after 7 points, instead of 6), accounting for the point given with the redemption.

I understand this workaround isn't perfect, but it’s the closest solution for now. Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions! 🙂

How can I prevent customers from earning points when redeeming a reward with Square Loyalty?

Hi, i've found a small issue with the loyalty program in Square.

I created a program where my customers earn points when they buy all the coffees. My idea was to give a free coffee every 6 points (6 coffees). The problem is when the customer reedems 6 points for a free coffee Square gives a point even for the free coffee given to them. I think this is not correct because usually the free item doesn't give a point otherwise the need 5 paid coffees to receive the free one. Is it clear? Is it possible to change it in anyway?

Thank you

Enri
