I am having issues on my site speed time as it takes a long time to load on mobile which is obviously derailing business and conversions. I have tried many things, including downsizing images etc, however my site is still very slow to load on mobile (where most of potential customers are.)

Would anyone help to troubleshoot or give suggestions?

My website link is https://thegroovee.square.site

Appreciate it

Hi @thegroovee,

It looks like your images might be causing your speed issues. I downloaded a few off your site and some are around 1mb in size (generally you should try and keep them under 300kb for online).

A few options (and tips for best practice when using images online):

General rules of thumb

Google has really cracked down in their algorithms of late to prioritise sites that load quickly

Images are normally the biggest culprit for slow loading sites

Try and use .webp formats where possible (this isn't always supported in product areas, but general content images on pages should be ok) - they're super small filesizes that are gaining more traction online

Always keep images <300kb if possible (JPG is normally best for smaller image sizes, but PNG even better for quality if you can keep the image size down)

Good guide for image resolution is no more than 150dpi and 1000 x 1000px max in size

Use Photoshop or an online image resizer to do this to all of your images before uploading them

Resize images with Photoshop (if you don't have already, you can subscribe via Adobe's Creative Cloud)

Open the image in Photoshop

In the top menu, go to Image > Image Size... (or press Ctrl+Alt / Cmd+Option + I)

Set the resolution first to 100

For a landscape image, set your width to 1000px (height will auto adjust)

For a portrait image, set your height to 1000px (width will auto adjust)

Save the image as

In the dialogue that appears, set the file to JPG

In the next dialogue, set your quality to 10 (you can change this later if you still need to squish it down a bit more)

Click OK

Now check the file size in your file explorer window (where you saved it) - if its over 300kb, try step 7+8 again but bump the quality down 1 each time

Use an online resizer (likely free)

These are a few online tools that can help (using the same width / height + resolution guides above):

Online Image Resizer - Crop, Resize & Compress Images, Photos and Pictures for FREE (resizeimage.net)

Resize multiple images at once! (iloveimg.com)

Simple Image Resizer, resize online images without losing quality

Hope that helps! It's not a nice process to re-do all over again after you've already set your site up, but it's worth it to make sure it loads quickly and Google ranks it higher as a result.

If you are a more advanced computer user, you might like to look into Adobe's Lightroom software (I use that to essentially mass batch all of our images to export a web friendly size format for our site which is a much faster process than doing them image by image).

Cheers

Hi @tomven,

Thanks so much for your reply.

I will redo all my images, however I think that is not the issue as my site speed was still slow with no images, I only added the images as no difference would be made in the degree of slowness.

Do you know whether I can delete code as that is recommended by Google PageSpeed Insights?

Thanks.
