How to use square reader in 2 different countries?

Hi there. I have been using square for a while in Australia and it has been great. I will go to Japan this month to attend a market and hoping to be able to use it there too. Can I do that as long as I create another account with another email address and have a different bank account connected to it? If there's anyone who's done it, please share.

Hi @mihoaus this is a great question!

Square hardware is only approved for use in the country for which the Square account was activated.

You can create multiple Square accounts, each with its own country selection, but a different email address and different identity verification information are required for each account. Visit our International Availability page for more details here.

Square’s hardware is subject to testing and certification for compliance with country-specific regulations and is only approved for use in the country for which it is intended. For example, hardware sold or intended for sale in Australia is not approved for use in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Republic of Ireland or France.

I purchased my square reader in Australia so can not be used in Japan?

If it can be used in Japan, do I require another (Japan)mobile number which is different from my Australia phone?

Hi @mihoaus,

If you purchased your Square Reader here in Australia and have an Australian Square account, you cannot use your Square Reader to accept card payments in any other country (including Japan).

You would need to either just record cash payments on your Square Point of Sale app, or sign up for a Square account in Japan if you wanted to accept payments using the Square Reader: https://squ.re/3O2kAw4

so as long as i can create account in Japan, i can use the same square reader device?

Hey @mihoaus, jumping in for @Laurie_ here! You'd need to use a different reader in Japan, as your Australian reader cannot be used overseas. Our hardware is only approved for the country in which your Square account was activated.
