I’m trying to set up the square for a one off fundraiser. I’m not a charity but raising funds for a charity. I’m borrowing someone else’s square and he reckons it was really easy to set up for personal use, but can’t remember how he did it.

Good question - With Square, you're able to sign up without an ABN as an Individual/Sole Trader, however, in your case we would first recommend reaching out to our Support Team directly to discuss your options, given that you'll be collecting funds on behalf of a charity organisation.

There are a handful of regulations in Australia around fundraising where individuals may be required to provide an Authority to collect for an association letter. Our team will be able to confirm whether Square is able to support you for card processing in this context, and what details you would need to provide as part of the sign up process.
