Parent and child page display

I have an author site, and I want to have a page for my books for adults and a separate page for my books for children. I want to make both of these 'child' pages under the 'parent' page of 'Books'. But I don't actually want any content in the 'Books' page, I just want to have it in the navigation menu. Is that possible?

Yes, you can set this up by creating two separate categories—one for your adult books and one for your children’s books—and then adding them as category subpages under a main “Books” button in your site’s navigation.

You can leave the main “Books” page empty so it’s just a menu heading without its own content, and visitors can choose which section they’d like to view. This way, your navigation stays clean and organised while still giving readers a clear path to each category.

Create Your Categories

1. Go to your Item Library.

2. Add your two categories and assign the relevant items to each category.

Add a Placeholder for “Books”

3. In the site editor, go to Website > Site Editor.

4. On your Home page, click the Header section in the template > select Edit Links.

5. Select Add Navigation Link.
6. In the window that appears, select "External Link" as the "Link to:" page, and type in "#" as the URL. This will trigger a third field for "Name". Name it Books, and then Save.

Nest Your Category Pages Under “Books”

7. Now that you have your Books navigation link, hover over it and select the '+' symbol to add sub navigation link.

8. Similar to before, for the "Link to:" field, select Category page, and then select your category. Do this for both categories.

9. This automatically creates the dropdown effect in your menu.

Publish Your Changes

10. Preview the layout to ensure this meets your needs before publishing.
11. Save and publish your site to see the dropdown in action.
