Hey Seller Community!

As many of you may have seen, Square, Inc. recently announced that a name change to Block, Inc.! Block, Inc. will be the name for the entirety of our company, which is made up of Square, Cash App, Tidal, Spiral, and TBD54566975.

Nothing changes for the Square/Seller business – the Square name will remain synonymous with the work we do with all of you. and our integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions, business software, and banking services for sellers – everything we cover here on Seller Community! This move allows the Seller business to own the Square brand it was built for.

So, why Block? You can read more in this Twitter thread that we’ve quoted below:

Block references the neighborhood blocks where we find our sellers, a blockchain, block parties full of music, obstacles to overcome, a section of code, building blocks, and of course, tungsten cubes.

“We built the Square brand for our Seller business, which is where it belongs,” said Jack Dorsey, cofounder and CEO of Block, Inc. “Block is a new name, but our purpose of economic empowerment remains the same. No matter how we grow or change, we will continue to build tools to help increase access to the economy.”

To clarify, the Seller Community will remain the Square Seller Community.

New to business world. Surprised to see Cashapp being apart of Block, did not know that. Are you guys accepting cashapp as forms of payment? I was nervous to at first, but it seems like it could be beneficial since so many people have that...and Chime.

I like that this is a name change that did not come from bad press like Facebook to Meta, Philip Morris to Altria, and the list is large of companies that changed their name because of bad behavior.
