I can't afford any of the Square recommended hardware right now, so trying to find alternatives and think this should work - but would like any input (that isn't 7 years old 🙂 )

I have Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 to use for checkout with app

I have Square reader (but will buy terminal if needed)

Since I can't afford $300+ for a printer and $150+ for cash drawer to connect directly to terminal, will it work:

If I find a printer & cash drawer that will work with the tablet and basically use that and just use the reader (or terminal) to process the cc when needed?

Hey there, @SheaO -

As long as the cash drawer & printer are compatible with your Android tablet, it sounds like your set up will work. I can provide a link that will show you what pieces of hardware are compatible with your Android device.

I would recommend running a couple of test payments once you have everything set up to make sure it's working properly.

Thank you - that's what I thought - makes sense, but still cannot get an answer from square that isn't "check our list of compatible hardware" Was hoping to get a definitive answer before purchase, because many register printers are not returnable once used or a high restocking fee.

Completely understand, @SheaO. I cannot guarantee hardware off of that list will work as you need them to.

I know this isn't an ideal situation. But there isn't a guarantee on any third party hardware that we haven't tested the compatibility.
