How do I connect a barcode gun to an iPad

I am trying to get ready for a State Gideons Convention, and am in charge of the merchandise table. Previously, sales have been done with pencil/paper and round removable stickers for pricing. I have a Square stand, and the iPad hooked up to the stand works great! However, I will have three sales persons working the table, and am trying to connect a Voyager 1250G bar code gun to another iPad. When I use a USB to Lightning adapter, nothing happens. I even tried using a powered hub, but the 1250G doesn't power up. When I connect the 1250G to the USB port of my desktop computer, the Voyager beeps on barcodes, but the barcode doesn't register in Square. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong -- but what?

Hello Wastategideons,

According to this info, there appears to be two bar code readers that are compatible with the Square Stand. Unfortunately, the Honeywell Voyager 1250g General Duty Scanner is not listed.
