Which phone or rugged tablet will work Square for Restaurant and Android? Or do you have to buy the device listed on Square's website?

Hi @BasicJuan. First, Square Restaurant POS does not work on any phone, either iPhone or Android. At least, not yet.

Otherwise, while Square does recommend certain devices that they have tested and know it works with, they can’t possibly test all tablets. You’re always safe to go with their recommendations, but I’ve seen the Restaurants App work on a variety of Android tablets. One word of caution — be sure that you check the Android OS requirements for any tablet you are considering, to be sure it meets Square’s minimum OS requirement. Even more, though, is to do a little research to be sure that — as Square adds new capabilities in future Android OS releases — the tablet you choose can be upgraded, at least for a few years. You don’t want to buy a tablet today only to find out next year that the OS can’t be upgraded, something that happens a lot in the Android ecosystem, especially with the non-A-List device manufacturers.
