Can iPad Camera be used as a barcode scanner

I thought I saw somewhere that the ipad camera can be used as a scanner with some combination of terminal and POS from Square. But, now I can't seem to find that information. Can an iPad alone be used as a barcode scanner in some for with square? Thanks

Yes, an Ipad camera can be used with Square as a Scanner. The camera can scan most Barcodes and even scan a QR code. I did a short video before in the forum somewhere showing this. In the Search box in the Square app on the Checkout tab you need to press the box on the right to activate the camera, then you can also switch Front / Rear Camera then place the barcode in the box area of the picture (Scan) area.

Does anyone know if this is true for the standard Square POS app? Or is this function only available on Square for retail? Thanks.

Attached is a video of me Scanning with an Ipad in a Square Stand. This is with Square for Retail, but I believe it was when I was using the free version. I tried retail but at the time I did not need some of the features so cancelled the Pay version and just used the free version. Now this is different from Square POS as it also used the Green Square Icon instead of the Black Square Icon. I am just showing you this video so you can see what needs to be tapped and see if you can use your Built in camera on the Ipad to work. You use the camera feature in Square and not a sepperate camera app. You can also use both the Front and Rear facing cameras. For me in the Ipad Stand I can only use the Rear faceing one. The camera as a scanner does work for 1D and QR codes and that is about all I know besides being quick at scanning. When in abled it does show a box where the Barcode needs to be placed. Depending on the size of the barcode it is easier or harder for the built in camera to read. Since a Barcode reader does work with the Regular Square POS I believe the Ipads Cameras should also work.
