thread Payment link removing sales tax in Payments Troubleshooting

I'm trying to remove sales tax that is getting automatically applied to payment links when I send them. I tried removing them from the location, but it's still being applied. I tried the following that I found on Square's site:

Calculate and apply tax rates automatically for Square Payment Links in your online Square Dashboard.

To enable sales taxes:

From your online Square Dashboard, select Payment Links.

Go to Settings > General.

Under Automatic settings, toggle on Apply sales tax to calculate taxes based on seller and buyer location for “Sell an item,” “Accept a payment,” and “Sell classes and tickets” links. Taxes will not be applied to “Accept a donation” links.

However, there is no "automatic settings" when I go to payment links/settings/general. Calling customer service is fruitless; they just keep telling me to so to account settings and remove the sales tax there. Square tech support is a joke. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks.

Sorry you're having an issue - these things can be frustrating sometimes. Is the Payment link for an item or service or ?? (that would be helpful to know)

@Wellshogwildbbq ;

Since you are creating a Payable link for this, did you look at the settings in your Catalog for that thing you are trying to sell and turn off the Sales tax? I sell items that are both Taxable and Not Taxable. When I enter the item I am selling I can choose if the Item has a Sales Tax or is Non-taxable. This tax setting has nothing to do with a Payment Link tho from my reading. When I have In-Store purchases of items I need to charge sales tax, and if a Person uses a Payment Link to buy in store they are still required to pay sales tax in my state. If I ship an item that is taxable, to another state, then sales tax is not charged.

Can you explain more how your using the Payment link and as was previously ased if it is for an Item or a Service? If you look near the Top of the Item or Service you should see a box that says Taxes.... if you click that area you will have the option in the Picture below. This is for my store with only 1 sales tax that I collect. For No Tax move the Slider till it is Blue next to non-taxable item.

Just be aware anytime this item is sold no tax will be applied.

More about Taxes with Square : https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5061-create-and-manage-your-tax-settings
