My iPad does not have enough storage to do the latest IOS update and I have received a message from Square to say without the latest IOS update I will not be able to receive Square updates. I am looking to replace my iPad Air for one with more storage. I have a First Generation Square Stand so I am concerned that I might buy a new iPad and then discover that Square is about to discontinue support for the First Generation Square Stand. Does anyone have any idea if the First Generation Square stands are going to be phased out?

@WindrushAlpacas I can’t guarantee that square is not trying to phase out their 1st gen stand. But I can say that an upgraded iPad may not fit in a 1st gen stand. If you are wanting to keep your 1st gen stand and iPad I would recommend going in to your settings and then storage and seeing if there are things you can delete to free up space for an update.

Thanks. My iPad is only a 16 gb model and even if I deleted everything off it but Square and iOS there would still not be enough storage to do the necessary updates. Unfortunately programs just keep getting bigger and bigger. I think my only option is to look for a used iPad of the same model but with much more storage and hope it works! Which iPad did you upgrade to?

@WindrushAlpacas We have a square register. So I am not sure what iPad would be best for you. I will say though I have had great experiences with Mercari for buying used items. I purchased my MacBook from there and a few other things. Just find someone with lots of sales and a verified account!

I don't know if the first gen Square stands will be phased out, but I can say 2nd gen Square stands are a whole lot better. It's nice having everything built into the stand. When we upgraded, I went to Ebay and bought 2 ipad air cellular for something like 180.00 each. I got the lowest storage 32Gb because all we run on it is just the Square POS app.

Thanks for the information. When I bought my iPad 16 GB was plenty of storage but these days it seems to be nothing! I hope your 32 GB last you for a long while. All I run on my iPad is the Square POS and yet between that and the Apple iOS they have more than used up my storage.

I think it will last until Apple dems it obsolete, then no more ios updates. I figure by then Square will need more resources than it can supply and I will update them then. I really can't complain, we run 2 Square POS systems and this is only the second time we've updated the iPads. We ran the 1st gen when it first came out, until 2 or 3 years ago.
