For square stand 2nd, to swipe the cards

I changed to the square stand to 2nd generation, and I even bought the card reader attached with it, but when I swipe the square gift card or other credit card payments, it’s not work at all, but already show reader connect ready to use, why can’t reader read the card ? Any set up part I have to do?

Sorry to hear you're having issues - you may need to contact Customer Support direct for additional assistance. Just wanted to clarify - we understand that you have a new Square Stand which can accept Contactless payments and Chip cards - what was the card reader you said you also purchased - for example, was it for Magnetic-stripe cards or was it another reader like the stand alone Contactless and Chip reader ? That may help others here with some suggestions. Note, the Community is not the same as Customer Support but, there's quite a bit of hands on experience here.

@JK_Fiber_Art It looks like you can choose to add a square mag stripe reader as a free additional add on and it plugs in via headphone jack on the bottom of the face of the stand.

@Sophialee What I know is that if a customer has a card that has a chip, the interface os square is advanced enough to know it’s a chip card and that the customer needs to use the chip. Or tap the card.
the gift cards though should work. So that is puzzling me. Especially if you are saying the reader says it’s connected. Are you able to swipe a gift card to load a balance to it?

I really want to know if the mag strip works with the gift cards? Does anyone know? I am not reading anything about this.....
