W9 FOR SQUARE

I need a @W9 for Square to set them up as Vendor in our database in order to purchase a card reader. Any idea how to get it? I have been on the phone with them for 30 minutes and they can't help me!

@CCES0104 Caveat, I am not giving tax or legal advice and only speaking from my personal experience, so consult with your tax advisor, accountant, or attorney.

Block, Inc. is a C-corporation so my understanding is you do not have to issue a 1099-NEC for them or 1099-Misc. Especially if you are paying them via credit or debit card. Block is not an individual and subject to same rules as Marty's Plumbing and you are paying marty.

"Other than for legal fees, if you see “Inc.", “Corporation", or “Incorporated" within a company's name, you won't need to issue a 1099-NEC."

While, you should be able to get a w-9 from Block, Inc., I don't think there is any question whatsoever they are indeed a C-Corporation and wouldn't need you to report on a 1099.

Just my thoughts.

Thank you. I agree; however, our CFO at the District Office of the school system will not allow us to make any purchase without a W9 on file. I don't know if because we are a public education system or if it is our county policy.

I am hoping to get one for Block, Inc.

@CCES0104 Square is unable to provide you with a copy of our W9 at this time.

If you need a proof of income, we provide a 1099-K for merchants who qualify. Learn more about Square tax reporting.

If you don’t qualify for a 1099-K, you can download your Tax Summary by logging into your online Square Dashboard. Use the date selector to choose the earliest and latest dates you accepted payments in the tax year and then click Export.

A .CSV file will download to your computer, which you can open using Excel or any other common spreadsheet program or financial software.
