Hello. At my job we use a square register point of sale system to keep track of customer profiles. Cashing out the customer the customer profile name does not show up on the receipt unless we save a new ticket and then reopen that ticket. I'll explain what we do during check-in and what I'm looking for.

-A customer comes in

-We ask for their first and last name

-We type in their name in the customer section and we find their profile (if that is what you call it)

-We then tap save the ticket and new ticket.

-it prompts us with their customer name and we then click yes.

-we go to Open tickets and click on the one we just created and then take their order and cash them out.

-the receipt prints with the customer name on it.

I am wondering if there is any way to have the customer's name automatically print on every receipt without having to save a new ticket and put their name in and then reopen the ticket and cash them out.

Thank you in advance

Hey there 👋

Thanks for breaking down your process step by step—that helps a ton. You’re not doing anything “wrong,” it’s just how Square handles customer profiles and receipts right now. The receipt only pulls the customer name if the sale is linked to an open ticket with that name attached. If you just add the customer at checkout, it unfortunately won’t show up on the printed receipt by default.

A couple of options/workarounds you might try:

Always start with a ticket – (like you’re already doing). That’s the only way Square guarantees the name shows up on the receipt.

Attach customer before checkout – If you tap “Add Customer” and attach them to the sale before hitting checkout, sometimes the name will show on the digital receipt, but not always on the printed one (depends on your printer + POS app version).

Feedback to Square – Honestly, this is one of those “quality of life” features Square hasn’t added yet. If having customer names automatically print on all receipts is important, definitely hit up Square Support with feedback. The more businesses ask, the more likely it makes it onto the roadmap.

So short answer: there’s no toggle in settings right now to make it automatic—you’re already doing the workaround most people use.
