Square Stand Dip & Tap Failure on IOS Update Notifications

Hi,

I have 2 Square Stands with Ipads as Self Ordering Kiosks in a Bubble Tea Shop. Everytime Apple sends out an IOS update Notification the Dip and Tap fails to work. I do not have auto update on. This is so frustrating because the customers do not find out until they have went thru all the steps to put in an order and get ready to pay. Ughh!! I wish I could disconnect them from wifi, but I can't they use wifi to communicate with Square Register. There does not seem to be a setting in IOS to "Do not allow IOS Update Notifications of any kind". Someone mentioned blocking the apple domains in my router. Then someone said that would not work anymore because apple uses encryption.

When this happens I have to take the Kiosks out of service, download the update and restart the Ipads a couple of times. This takes average of 20 to 30 minutes. Someone said to try restarting the Square Stands from the settings in Square Register. I will try that next time IOS update notification. Seems doubtful that would work, and if it does I don't know if a customer's order would be saved. Recently we just had IOS 18, then few days IOS 18.01. Each time failure. I will keep searching for a solution. In the meantime I am hoping that Apple will fix this issue for people using their Ipads with Square Stands and taking card payments.

@jcgjupiter I haven't had this issue yet, but I change my settings to never allow the screen to turn off so I think that may be why I don't get the notification. As a procedural note, we check each tablet each morning for updates. The app store will hold updates for a few days sometimes, so we manually go into the square appstore page and check for them.

I would try this first and see if it helps. I know you can also turn off iOS updates.

Our screens are set to never turn off. And I have always turned off IOS Updates (No Auto Update) . But in Ipad IOS Settings when an update is available there will be a red dot saying Update Available. I do not see a setting for "Do not Notify me when Update is Availble". And when that happens this is when KioskBuddy (Square Stand) will not light up the Dip and Tap when an order is complete. Checking this at Open, wouldn't solve the Issue, because Apple will send the notification at any time of day. They seem to know when we are the busiest. LOL

We use the Kioskbuddy Setting to Push the Orders directly to the Orders Tab in Square Register which has always worked great.

I did just subscibe to a service that will send me an email when Apple releases updates, so maybe I will at least know. I don't use any Apple Products except for these 2 Ipads, so this would be the only way for me to know.

I will keep trying stuff and searching.
