Our new online store performs very poorly (very slow). One of the reasons according to Lighthouse Report is that third-party code blocks main thread.
Is there any tricks or tips to improve store speed here?

HI, can you please share a screenshot? Or Link? Square is known for heavy traffic times during the day which will make website load times lag. Is the website top heavy?

HI, its a known issue. You can search the Community for discussions regarding load times. With high quality images you have, it will perform as usual. It also depends on the internet speed of the person shopping online.
