Selling Plastic Gift Cards Digitally?

Our farm has just ordered custom plastic gift cards from Square for customers to purchase. Right now, during Covid-19 restrictions, the majority of our orders are coming through our online store with Square for contactless pickup or shipping. I'm not seeing a way (or a logical workaround) to get the plastic cards in my online store for customers to order in a contactless manner. Any advice or tips?

@Talinan I'd simply add them as an item, with a drop down as to how much to load.

Then the order comes through, load the card as if the customer was in front of you - but add a discount for the full amount.

Your reporting will only show the actual amount the customer has paid in the totals.

I was thinking along the same lines. But wouldn’t this double count the sale?

Once when the customer purchases online, and second when you load it for them? Or do you do a 100% discount when you load it since you already received the money.

Yup, the 100% discount is the secret ingredient here to make it work without double counting the sale.

Sure, it might look as if you sold 2 gift cards in terms of the transaction records, but the $ amount will be for only one. And if you name your discount something like "Online Gift Card Sale" then there would be a record so it's clear there was only 1 sold.

I use a Square Online site, but you can use any site - the only thing that the website you use does is just to collect the money & complete the sale, the loading of the Gift Card & Applying the 100% discount on your Square POS device is what really matters.

I used to use Wordpress with their ecommerce integration, but I switched over to doing it through Square Online:

No problem!

Yup, because there is no official way to sell a Plastic Gift Card online, this is the work around we've found.

You would sell an Item called Gift Card online at whichever price you would like, and then you would separately load a Plastic gift card on your Square POS device and in that transaction you would add a 100% Discount.

Let me add that this is not an optimal way to do it because you are altering the cost of the item "card" so be sure that any amount you are selling reflects all the costs to it, for example the price of the card.
