How can I generate SKUs automatically?

i have 2 companies which use square for retail. i need auto-generated skus. one company has the option and one does not have the option. how can i get the option into the company that does not have it.

Hello @Sbyrd5525 thanks for your question. Can you please tell me more? I am guessing you are a vendor who is providing products to these companies using Square? Generally SKUs are something stores will create from their Square Dashboard. Users of some Square products can autogenerate SKUs but some cannot. See this link for more info about this subject:

Usually a store will use whatever SKU (or barcode) comes already printed on the product. It's unusual for a store to dictate what the SKU number should be, but if that is the case then you would have to find out what SKU numbers your store is expecting you to print on your products. Does that makes sense?

Are both companies using Square for Retail plus? Auto generation of SKU’s might be a Retail + only feature. I noticed my system was automatically generating SKU’s today when I was creating some new items. I had to go into inventory management/ settings/ SKU’s and toggle it off. I am using Square for Retail +

Are you using the free Square for Retail app for both companies? Maybe one is using Square POS and not Square for Retail? I have one business and am using the Square for Retail Free and I can auto generate the SKU's. The green area at top of picture lets me choose to Generate SKU, also if I choose Actions I can choose to auto generate SKU's. You may have gone too far with item library/settings/inventory, and just need to be on a computer; not android, ipad or register and log into your square account and goto : items/library like the below screen shot.

You need to activate the Retail Version. It's very easy.

It's predatory is what it is. I literally can't click the offered "free" option. Every instance of the button brings up a subscription overlay.

Also welcome to the Square Community as I see this is your First post.

To get Square for Retail free, you need to Subscribe to Square for Retail then discontinue the Subscription or choose not to continue with the Paid version. I forget how it was worded when I did that in 2019.
