discounts for specific items for a group

When creating a discount, I am trying to select specific items and/or categories that are discounted for a specific group of people. It is only letting me choose one rule when creating the discount. Is this a glitch, or is Square unable to apply more than one rule to a discount?

Hi Bhaus,

From what I can find - here's a snippet from one of Square's Support Help Files: When you create a discount for a customer group, the discount will automatically apply to the entire purchase when a buyer from the group is added to a transaction, speeding up the checkout process. Perhaps some other Community Members have some thoughts or a work around.

@RobynR Can you please help with this? We are a salon and spa, and we need to be able to set groups to get specific discounts on certain items. We have used this function on the previous system for many years. You need to be able to put more than one rule for anything when you have a large inventory of retail and service options.

It’s the same roadblocks with subscriptions and building them to work with services. So many essential functions are asked for repeatedly, and there is no way to see what is in the pipeline for approval.

I'm just jumping in to offer some support! 👋

Firstly, you can add another rule to your customer group discount once you have completed the initial steps to create your discount. I completely understand your frustration with some of the limitations around discounts and subscriptions, and I'll continue to share this feedback with our Product Team.

In the meantime, we may be able to find a solution or provide a workaround for your discount query once we have a better understanding of what you're trying to achieve. I see that you want to apply the discount to customer groups through the Square Retail app for certain items. Could you specify the rules you want to apply to this discount? We can certainly test a few configurations from our side to see if we can achieve the desired outcome.

@Laurie_ I want to create a discount for a selected customer group to receive 10% off specific retail items and 5% off specific service items. The way I see it, you can't create a discount for more than one rule. If you select a customer group, you can't make a rule for specific categories or items. I just want to be able to apply automatic discounts to a specific group without discounting every item we sell in retail or services.
