Item sales show in wrong or nonexistant categories

When I look at our sales for the week, some items are showing up in categories to which they are not assigned. For instance, an vest item is assigned to the "Outwear" subcategory only and it is showing on the Item Sales report in the parent category "Clothing & Accessories." I double checked and only the "Outwear" category is selected for that item. And then I have a couple of items showing up in a category that does not even exist (probably a category that once existed but has since been deleted). This category does not even show up in our list of assignable cateogories.

I know that once the sale of a item occurs, sales reports will always reflect the item's assigned category at the time of the sale, even if that category is subsequently changed. But that is not what is happening here. Here, the item's assigned category is X at the time of sale but the sale is reporting in category Y.

Any ideas?

That is certainly odd, and I'm happy to investigate this further! Can you provide screenshots of what you are seeing on your end?
