How to track 1 inventory across 2 locations?

I sell at markets and sometimes have 2 markets on the same day. My mom is at 1 location, while I'm at another. I like tracking our sales separately, but it is all from 1 set of inventory, that I use to determine what I need to make more of. I can't seem to find a way to set up 1 set of inventory for both locations - if I enable inventory tracking by count at both, and put in the total for the item at each location, it doubles my inventory. This seems like a pretty basic/common thing, is it really not possible to do in square?

Hey @thebarndoornc.. Square currently does not offer shared inventory for multiple locations. But I'm not sure that should be a problem for you. In the simple situation you are describing, having multiple locations is overkill, really, not to mention needless additional expense per location.

If all you are wanting to is segregate sales, you have a number of better options. You could set up your mom and yourself as different team members for the purposes of recording sales. Then you could run a team member sales report that would show sales for each of you, as well as for both. If you don't want to do that, you could run reports for sales by device no matter what team member is signed into that device. In both cases, you'd be using the same inventory.

Of course, it's possible that there is some other issue/concern you didn't mention in your post that might be the reason you need two locations. If so, let me know. But, if not, those are two much simpler approaches I came up with off the top of my head. I'm sure there might be others.

We are often at different locations in different counties with different sales tax rates - I don't know if there is a way to use different sales tax rates on the same day using 1 Square location?

That could be an issue, for sure. That issue makes me so happy that I live in a sane, reasonable state that has the same sales tax rate state-wide. 😏 I'll think on that and see if I can come up with an answer.
