POS Library search results - alphabetization is no longer a thing???

Square has the uncanny ability to push out updates that unnecessarily move things around - just subtly enough to confuse the whole team for a week or so (muscle memory is key in operating the POS swiftly.) Extra points for making these changes during our busiest season lol

Recently, we noticed that when tapping the magnifying glass icon to search our Library, the results no longer list in alphabetical order.

This UI used to be PERFECT, quick, and efficient. Now, they’ve clearly replaced the team with designers and product managers who don’t consult, or ever work their POS UI in the field, to see how their UI changes are SLOWING US DOWN more and more with every unnecessary update. Any idea when this search issue will be fixed? If no, any idea what the new “rhyme or reason” is to the new way search results are listed? It seems random?

We feel like Square has been doing everything it can to get us to break up with them since around 2022-2023. Used to LOVE this platform, and we have been clinging to that old love, hoping things will go back to the way they were. Clover and Shopify have been courting us, so it’s clear we still got it, and maybe it’s time to consider making some changes for our long-term happiness lol

Hi @BabsBabsBabs — thanks so much for sharing all of this and for being so detailed! I completely hear you — muscle memory is everything when running POS systems, and I can imagine how disorienting it is when search results are no longer alphabetical.

I want to take a closer look at this so I can fully understand. Just to be clear, this is happening in the app when you go More > Items > Search, and not at checkout, correct? When I checked my app, I’m still seeing items in alphabetical order.

Could you reply with some photos or a short video of what you’re seeing on your end? Also, please confirm which Square app you’re using and the app version.
