Unable to rearrange categories on site/show and hide categories.

I'm having trouble navigating how to hide or show categories on the site as well as rearrange them. I don't have the option to rearrange from neither the edit site or the categories pages.

One specific category "Candy" is not showing at all and just saying hidden when I go on edit site. When I go to this category under items & services it doesn't have any options for online visibility.

I also have no rearranging ability under the categories section like I have seen posted by others.

Hi there @TheArcticCircle.. This one is easy to miss. I forget about it all the time. From your web dashboard, go to Items & Services > Items > Categories. At the top, you will see a blue "Rearrange" button. Click on it and you'll be able to use the icon on the far right by clicking/holding it and then moving categories into the order you want them to be presented.

Otherwise to show/hide categories on your site, edit a category. Scroll down to the "Sales Channels & Hours" section. You'll see your website URL with the little world icon on the left. Toggle that setting on or off depending on your needs.

Hello thank you for replying. Here is a screenshot of my screen after going to items and services > items > categories. That button is not showing to rearrange them.

@TheArcticCircle. Hmmm. Well, in that case, it sounds like something is messed up in your account. Most likely, you will need to get on the phone with customer support tomorrow. But, before you do, humor me and try the following:

In your usual browser, clear history and cookies. Then sign back in and see if it possible shows up.
Try another browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc) and sign into your dashboard and see if it is there.

If neither of those works, then this is something that support will have to help you with. They will, with your authorization, be able to access your dashboard and troubleshoot from there.

That's a great suggestion I didn't even think about. But unfortunately I will have to spend the morning on the phone with support. I cleared everything and restarted the browser but no changes. I also don't have that website option within the category editing screen. It only has the POS option for hiding categories.

I'll post whatever my finding are in case anyone else runs into this problem.

Facing the same issue, I cannot see the "rearrange" button at all. This is quite troublesome as there is a specific sequential ordering of my categories

Hello everyone, sorry I've been away for a while. We are preparing for our grand opening and have just had so much going on. I am glad to say I have figured out how to rearrange the categories now.

It seems like Square was in the middle of moving the way things show up online to the "Menus" section. So now instead of going to categories, go to menus and then after you have selected the menu you want to change click the three dots by the menu name and select "rearrange menu groups."

I hope this helps anyone who is still having trouble as I know how frustrating it can be to have things out of the order you want them in, especially for restaurant categories. I am also attaching a video to show where to click.

Hi @TheArcticCircle.. Thanks for that update. I, too, noticed about a week ago that my online store had been switched from categories to menus. I knew it was going to happen, but it just happened for me in the last week. Anyway, your update is very welcome here. I'm going to mark it as a solution.

The change happened in real time for me. Literally one day rearrange was in Categories and then I could not find it the very next day! Thank you for showing me where it moved to. I may not have ever noticed those 3 dots.
