I want to get a barcode scanner, we have a square register and run Square for Retail Plus. But, I just read this...

Note: For Square for Retail and Square for Restaurants Plus sellers - only the Socket Mobile SocketScan S700 and Socket Mobile 7Ci Bluetooth barcode scanners are compatible with the Square for Retail and Square for Restaurants app.

Is this just referring to the square for retail app we use on our iphones & ipad? I'm so confused. I also read that bluetooth scanners are not compatible with square register.

I need advice on the best barcode scanner to order. And if I want a bluetooth scanner to do stocktake will I have to purchase another device?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Hi, @LagunaDLuxe, thanks for reaching out with your query.

This is understandably confusing as there are a few things at play here since you're using specific Square software with Square for Retail Plus, as well as the Square Register.

So, we need to ensure that we're ticking both of these boxes in terms of compatibility. First of all, you can connect hardware — such as a USB barcode scanner — through the USB port of Square Register. However, currently you will not be able to connect hardware via Bluetooth. This automatically rules out any Bluetooth devices.

While this feature isn’t currently available, we’re constantly working to improve our products based on feedback from our customers. If you click on the Socket Mobile Socket Scan S700 link, you will also see a note in the product description advising this device will not work alongside the Square Register.

If you visit our barcode scanners page, and filter under Square Register for hardware, you will see the Zebra LS2208 USB Bar Code Scanner is compatible to use alongside your Square Register running Square for Retail Plus.

At this stage, if you're looking to use one of the above Bluetooth scanners, you will need to be running the Square for Retail Plus app on a compatible tablet.

We hope this helps to clear up some confusion here. Hopefully, other Sellers are happy to jump in with their own suggestions in terms of recommended hardware too!

Amazing Laurie, Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I have ordered the Zebra LS2208 USB Bar Code Scanner for our register as well as a Socket Mobile Socket Scan S700. Will post once I have it all set up.
