FEATURE REQUEST: Modify Tax Rules for Dining Options

FEATURE REQUEST: Offer additional rule options.

I have a coffee shop and almost all of my sales are carry out which means they are not taxable.

The default is "charge tax unless added to the rule". Can we add the inverse as a rule option? "DO NOT charge tax unless added to the rule"?

The next level request would be the ability to set rules at the category or menu level rather than at the item level. I could make anything in the "Gift Shop" category taxable unless excluded.

Between my baristas and my baker, I'm adding menu items almost daily and would love to save the time it takes to modify the rule every time. (Plus I usually forget to...)

I wasn't able to locate this elsewhere in the Community, so it looks like you may be the first to share your interest in a feature that would allow you to have this level of control over tax rules - thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us here. Specific examples like this are always helpful when new features are being suggested!

You're welcome! But honestly, I'm concerned that no one else has brought it up... It makes me wonder if there's an easier way to handle this that I haven't thought of...

(FYI - Since posting this, I've forgotten to add a new drink to the exclusion rule at least 5 times...)

I have been wondering this myself, when I spoke with a Square rep today, I was told that there is no way to select "dine in" tax for an entire transaction, tax has to be added to each individual item. Much more work than it should be.
