open item cost

Setting up square for the first time and can't figure this out. Is there a way to have an open cost item that the servers can input the amount? Our current POS has open food, open liquor, and open misc. keys where they can enter the amount. Adding a million keys for each random price seems wrong. Thanks!

Hi @kimapollo,

Thank you for posting in the Seller Community.

You can create an item and enter all details necessary except for the price. After saving the item, it will appear in your item library and at checkout as a "variable item" which means you can enter whatever given price you choose at the time.

For example, you can name one item "Beer" and then type in the price for that transaction after selecting the item.
