Taking Deposits on Square for Restaurants

What is the best way to take a deposit for a future event through square for restaurants? We want to take a deposit in advance, but not have the payment post until the day of the event.

Hi @Sflikkema,

Not sure if this works but you could save their card on file and then go and process their payment on the day of the event. I can't think of a way to process it in advance but not have it actually post until the day of the event.

It sounds like you're looking for the ability to pre-authorize a card, @Sflikkema. If so, that would be considered a feature request at this time - we're tracking interest here, where you'll also find suggestions and alternative ways to accomplish the same outcome.

You could also look into prepayments with Square Appointments!

@Valentina No we need to be able to run the charge for $500 deposit and have the charge go through but the revenue should reflect for the event that happens months later.

That wouldn't be possible with Square at this time, @Sflikkema.

If you process a payment, it will reflect as being process the day you accept the payment.

It's not possible to have a payment post or reflect as posted on a day other than the day it is processed.
