How can I create a variably priced item that allows me to enter a custom amount at checkout?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Venue rentals.

We use our Square for restaurants to input deposits for venue rentals. The amount being input can be any price based on the number of hours as well the number of rooms being rented. I tried to make the price of the Item $1.00 so when they collected a $1,000 security deposit they would input $1,000 to collect the money. The issue is when we try and collect $1,500.50 Square changes the value to $1,500. How do I update the Item to allow the collection of dollars and cents?

Thank you for reaching out to us!

You can set the item to have a variable price by leaving the price field blank, which will allow you to enter any amount and input both dollars and cents during checkout. Here’s how:

Sign in to your online Square Dashboard.
Navigate to Items & Orders > Items > Item Library.
Select the item you want to edit.
In the Price field, delete the $1.00 value and leave it blank.
Click Save.

When I try this it says the field is required and the save button is grayed out.
